CHARTING A COURSE
Not satisfied with your MOS? Do you feel like you are not performing at your maximum level and are seeking to be challenged? Perhaps you are just curious about what is out there. Set an appointment with an Army Career Counselor. We will help you explore all your options and point you in the right direction.
Ideally, the time to look for a new MOS is when your reenlistment window opens. This is a year out from the end of your contract date. It’s the perfect opportunity because it allows us time to explore every avenue of approach.
The first thing we do is check your ASVAB scores and generate a comprehensive list of all the jobs you qualify for. If your scores aren’t up to par, don’t worry. If you come to see us when your window opens up, we will have plenty of time to set you up with the Education Center and bring those scores up. Once that is out of the way and you have a list, you can do a little research on your own by checking your top MOS on ArmyCOOL (Credentialing Opportunities On-Line). ArmyCOOL helps Army service members find information on certifications and licenses related to their military occupation and civilian careers.
The next step is finding open vacancies. Sometimes you may have to look outside of your commuting distance. You can check on the IPPSA job market for positions, but I recommend speaking with your assigned Army Reserve Career Counselor. They will have instant access to all vacancies that are out there.
